Camping Info: Trails and Maps
When visiting the Grand Canyon National Park, keep in mind the certain parts of the park are only open during certain seasons. The South Rim is open all year long, while the North Rim is open all year except in the winter. If you are planning to stay near the canyon there are several options. By the South Rim you could stay in Grand Canyon Village which can cost between $80 and $400 depending on how long you plan to stay. There are not any resorts directly in the park, but there are some lodges and campgrounds. There are developed campgrounds for car access and one RV campsite, but also more undeveloped campgrounds that people have the option of hiking to or taking mule tours to. Phantom Ranch is one place to stay, located in the inner canyon.
To get to lodges or to just explore the canyon, there are several popular trails for easy or more difficult hikes. South Kaibab Trail and Bright Angel Trail both start on the South Rim and go down towards the Colorado River. South Kaibab is shorter at 6.3 miles, while Bright Angel Trail is 7.8 miles. River Trail follows the Colorado River and is the shortest hike at only 1.7 miles. The longest and most difficult hike at 14.2 miles in on North Kaibab Trail which starts on the North Rim and goes down towards the Colorado River.
